Frequently Asked Questions
General Info
What is Beach Beast?
Beach Beast is a 3+ mile challenge run with obstacles through sand and surf. The course for each race is tailored to the location and terrain available. The race will involve a lot of running and navigating obstacles, but will NOT include swimming. You can expect to run through at least ankle-deep water at some point during the course.
Is this a competitive race?
Everyone will be timed. Registrants from all waves will be eligible for prizes given to age group categories. Beast Cup competitors will be required to run the course in the 8:45am wave. All finish times will be posted online.
What skill level is needed for Beach Beast?
The course is for all skill levels. Navigating the course will take moderate effort and a great sense of adventure. Fellow racers will always be around to help out. And don’t forget, if you just can’t do an obstacle, those that aren’t racing for trophies or the Beast Cup can just run around it, but be aware of surprises!
What is the Beast Cup?
All registrants that are running in the competitive 8:45 wave will be eligible for Beast Cup competition. The TOP THREE men and TOP THREE women with fastest individual completion time will be awarded a special trophy, with the TOP MAN and WOMAN winning a Beast Cup. The TOP THREE teams, produced by the 4 fastest times from each registered team, will be awarded a special trophy, with the TOP TEAM winning a Beast Cup. All winners will also receive Beast Swag and Prizes.
What is the Lowest Price Guarantee?
We promise you that the registration price for Beach Beast will never be lower than the introductory price for each event. So you won’t need to wait until there is an online deal or discount code. This does not include “deal” sites due to their specific nature (ie. Deals are for specific heats/run times not advertised or not open). Please note that during the Lowest Price Guarantee period, no discount codes are allowed.
What do I get as a Beast racer?
You will get an entry into the Beach Beast race, a Beach Beast T-Shirt, a finisher’s medal and entry into the Beast Lounge with music, food and more. You will also start receiving the Beastly Tales newsletter every Wednesday, which will give you news and information about all Beast Race Series events.
What do I get if I register through a deal site such as Living Social or Groupon?
You will get an entry into the Beach Beast race for the specific non-competitive heat(s) offered. But don’t worry, you will still get a timing chip and BIB. You will also get the finisher’s medal and entry into the Beast Lounge with music, food and more. Deal site registrations are not eligible to join existing teams and are not transferrable once the voucher is redeemed on our website.
Do you run registration deals?
From time to time, we will run registration deals and promotions. This does not affect registrations already purchased. Deals are not for the entire event and are for specific heats according to availability.
What is the Beach Beast Fitness Expo?
We’re excited to have the first Fitness Expo on Friday April 5th at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper Ocean Ballroom from 4-8pm, brought to you by our friends the Karma Athletes. There will be live music, vendors, a fitness contest, and the first ever Beach Beast cheer off! This event will also serve as the packet pickup for Beach Beast – Fort Lauderdale on April 6th.
Can I participate in the Beach Beast Fitness Expo?
Definitely! The expo is for everyone, whether you are registered for Beach Beast or not. If you wish to be a vendor, please contact karmaathletes@gmail.com for more information.
Will you have a course map and obstacle descriptions prior to race weekend?
Yes. Details of the course for each location will be revealed prior to each race. You will find them in the race info section of each race. The Beast Team is hard at work making sure all the obstacles are hard and unique, but also a lot of fun.
Do you have hotel recommendations for Beach Beast weekend?
Absolutely! Beach Beast is a destination event. For each race, we will do our best to work with a specific hotel for a Beach Beast group rate. For Fort Lauderdale, we invite you to stay at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper for maximum convenience to all activities as well as enjoy free and easy parking. Click here to take advantage of our special group room rate.
What charities does Beach Beast benefit?
We are proud to have Volunteers of America as our national charity partner. Partial proceeds from all Beach Beast events will help benefit their wide variety of services for our veterans and children. Each race will also benefit a local charity partner in need, such as the Karma Athletes for the Fort Lauderdale event.
Can I also donate to the Beach Beast charities?
Yes! While a portion of the registration proceeds will be going to our charities, you can also elect to add a small donation to your registration that will go directly to the charities. All proceeds collected will be presented to our race charities on the day of the race. You can also elect to donate to our charities without registering for Beach Beast. Just go to Our World.
Will race teams also be able to benefit a charity?
In addition to partial proceeds from all registrations going to our charity partners, the 2 largest teams that compete will be able to direct a portion of their team’s registrations to the charity of their choice.
Can I volunteer?
Yes! We need many volunteers to make this a great event for participants. In exchange for helping out that morning, volunteers will be allowed to run the course for free during the last scheduled wave of the day. Volunteers will receive the same t-shirt and finisher’s medal as all other registrants, however they will not get a racing BIB or timing chip. Please see the volunteer info page for details and to submit your name.
How can I keep up to date on event information and news?

Anyone aged 12 or older is welcome to race. An adult must be present at time of race check-in with all 12-17 year olds.
Do you give any discounts?
Active and Retired Military, emergency responders, and all students get a 10% discount. Please be sure to check that option at time of registration.

What are the wave times for Beach Beast?
Please see specific wave times for each race by going to the Events tab and selecting the race that you are interested in.
What about the Beast Cup?
The Beast Cup wave will always be the 8:45am wave for each race. If for some reason this needs to change for a specific race, then the details will be noted in the race info section.
Can I sign up as team?
We encourage teams to sign up. In addition to getting a 10% discount for registration, you also have a chance to direct a portion of your registration to the charity of your choice if you’re one of the 2 largest teams. Besides, it’s more fun to do an obstacle race with your friends, family and co-workers.
How does team registration work?
The first person to create the team will be the Team Captain. The captain has the option to sign up as many team members as he\she wants at the time of registration and pay all at once. Additional team members can join the team at any time after it’s been created.
Where will I go to get my Race Packet?
Fort Lauderdale Registrants MUST pick up their packet on Friday, April 5 during the Beach Beast Health & Fitness Expo. Packet pickup will be from 4-8pm in the Ocean Ballroom at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper located at 1140 Seabreeze Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. You are not guaranteed an event shirt unless you come to the packet pick up. If you pick up your packet on Saturday morning of the race, you will receive your shirt via mail within 5 business days. (this applies only if we run out or over sell at our discretion)
More info is coming soon for Clearwater Beach Registrants.
I can’t make it to packet pickup for my race. Can somebody else pick up my packet?
Yes, as long as they have a copy of your ID, somebody else can get your race packet for you.
Can I cancel and get a refund?
We have a strict no refund policy.
Can I transfer my entry?
Real Beasts never quit. However, we understand that things happen. If you notify us prior to 2 weeks before the scheduled event that you are unable to attend, we will issue you a free entry coupon good for any future Beach Beast event. Due to event planning and purchases for event registrants, we will not be able to issue you a free entry coupon within 2 weeks of the event.
Race Day

The race is rain or shine. We do not cancel!
Can I just come to watch participants on the course?
Of course! Spectators at Beach Beast will always be free. There will be multiple locations on the beach around the course from which you can watch participants.
What should I bring to the race?
You will only need your ID and some cash for refreshments and/or cool Beach Beast swag that will be available.
What should I wear to compete in?
As portions of this race are on a public beach, respectable beach attire is required. Sunblock and sunglasses are also recommended, but whatever you’re comfortable with.
What about wearing a costume?
We WANT to see costumes! In addition to letting everyone have a lot more fun, we also give awards to the best Individual and Team costumes. So be creative!
What kind of shoes should I wear?
It goes to personal comfort on footwear, and even if you would rather go barefoot. However, we recommend minimalist or Vibram shoes for running the course.
Where can I park for the race?
Each race location will have its own parking procedures. We will publish parking guidelines and notices for each race to registrants through Facebook, the Beastly Tales Newsletter, as well as in the race info for each location.
How early should I arrive for the race?
As with all activities along the beach, traffic can sometimes be an issue. We recommend that you arrive at least 2 hours before your wave time. We will have plenty of activities and fun planned, so plan to come early and make a day of it.
What sort of activities will be available when I’m not running the course?
There will be many sporting activities set up on the beach for the entire event, and you’ll also be able to listen to great music and enjoy refreshments.
